Priority consideration will be given to an admitted/enrolled full time student demonstrating financial need in order to attend Furman.
The recipient should exhibit initiative, ability, a love of learning, and a dedicated work ethic. The academic credentials of the student should be solid, but not necessarily stellar.
The scholarship is intended to benefit students from working class backgrounds judged ineligible for merit scholarships that only consider academic achievements and scores on standardized tests. The Stewart-Collins Memorial Scholarship affords Furman’s scholarship committee the opportunity to look carefully into the background of an applicant and assign more weight to intangible qualities generally associated with success.
